Necanicum Together
Necanicum Together at the Bob Chisholm Community Center
On March 29th, the Necanicum Watershed Council hosted a first-of-its-kind community conservation event at the Bob Chisholm Community Center. The event aimed to provide a wide variety of local community conservation resources to landowners in the Necanicum Basin who are interested in natural resource protection or restoration on their private land. The event followed an earlier “Get to Know Your Watershed Council” gathering and provided additional opportunities for the Watershed Council to get to know our local landowners. The event was a great success thanks to the many partners that came together on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
We enjoyed presentations from the North Coast Watershed Association and Tillamook Estuary Partnership and resources and educational information from Clatsop Soil and Water Conservation District, a U.S.F.W.S. butterfly and habitat biologist, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, North Coast Land Conservancy, Clatsop County OSU Extension Services and Master Gardener Association, PNW Native Landscapes, and the Chinook Indian Nation. We also had partners from the Oregon Department of Forestry and permitting information from professionals at DEQ and US Army Corps of Engineers.
It was great to spend time with and learn from so many experts doing important work in our community. We learned more about native plant species, habitat restoration, project possibilities in the Necanicum and its neighboring watersheds, and much more. We are extremely grateful to landowners and residents that shared their Saturday with us, and especially appreciated the local elected officials that made time to join us. With your support, the Necanicum Watershed Council is considering making this an annual event.
